Home Made IC Pressure Tester

Below I have included pictures of my Home Made IC Pressure Tester.

This is a picture of the completed IC pressure tester. I have 3 main pieces: PVC Pipe
and Cap. A Valve Stem Extender. A Pressure Gauge.

MAP
This is a picture shows the cap and pipe with a coupling attached. I had an extra piece
PVC pipe I cut and bought a cap from Home Depot. I used PVC glue and glued them together.
Once it was dry, which was pretty quick, I drilled and tapped for a NPT fitting. I then
screwed in a pipe fitting. Took an extra piece of coupling and clamped it down. Make sure
you clamp it very tight. The first time I pressure tested to 25 psi I blew it off.

This is another picture of the same thing, different angle.

This is an inside view so you can see the cap, pipe, tapped area and coupling all together.

I had an extra pressure gauge lying around, so I put it into the system. This allows
me the ability to check the pressure under the hood. If you don't have an extra pressure
gauge, then you can use the boost gauge in the car. You will need a friend to view it for
you. With mine it can be done by one person.
Here is what I do to perform the test:
1. Set your motor to TDC - top dead center. (another person said 90 off TDC)
This is to close one set of intake valves and on the other cylinders the ehaust valves.
2. Pull the intake snorkel, and attach the coupling to the turbo inlet.
3. If you have a second gen, not too sure about first gens, but you will need to
pull the vacuum line to the EGR. 'A' on the TB and cap it. I am not sure if the
egr will still lift off the seat, when performing the test. (I have a block off plate).
4. Hook up an air compressor to the valve stem extender. The I use a valve stem extender
because it will seal the air in the system when you remove the air compressor. (NOTE: SET THE PRESSURE REGULATOR ON YOUR AIR COMPRESSOR FOR THE MAX AMOUNT OF PRESSURE
YOU WANT TO RUN. YOU WILL DAMAGE YOUR BOOST GAUGE IF YOU OVER PRESSURIZE IT.)
5. Listen for leaks. I make sure I have a squirt bottle with soapy water handy to start
spraying on where I think the leaks are coming from. 6. Fix the leaks and loose couplings.
7. Happy Boosting...
